The operating principle of CNC lathes and how to operate them safely.

A CNC lathe is a machine tool that performs turning operations on rotating workpieces, with the workpiece’s rotation serving as the primary motion and the movement of the cutting tool as the feed motion. It can also be used for machining operations such as drilling, reaming, boring, tapping, threading, and knurling using appropriate tools. It is one of the most widely used types of machine tools in mechanical manufacturing and repair shops. This machine is capable of processing various types of rotary-shaped surfaces. So, how can we operate a CNC lathe safely?

A CNC lathe is a machine tool that uses the workpiece’s rotation as its primary motion and the movement of the cutting tool as its feed motion to perform turning operations on rotary surfaces. It can also be used for related machining operations with tools such as drills, reamers, reaming drills, taps, dies, and knurling tools. It is one of the most widely used types of machine tools in mechanical manufacturing and repair shops. This machine tool is suitable for machining various rotary-shaped surfaces. So, how can we operate a CNC lathe safely?

( 1) Before operating the machine tool, operators must wear appropriate protective gear.

( 2) Machine operators must be thoroughly familiar with the function of each button and the relevant operating precautions. Before starting machining, the machine’s protective door must be closed. Tools around the machine should be neatly arranged for easy access and retrieval, thereby improving work efficiency.

( 3) When operating the machine tool, gloves are prohibited. Operators must pay close attention to the warnings displayed on the warning signs located at various parts of the machine tool. While the machine tool is energized, operators must never open or touch any parts marked with a lightning symbol and equipped with high-voltage components, to avoid electric shock injuries. During thunderstorms, do not turn on the machine tool, as the instantaneous high voltage and large current generated by lightning strikes can easily damage the machine tool, causing module burnout or data corruption and leading to unnecessary losses.

( 4) After the tool is securely clamped, a trial cut should be performed manually.

( 5) During machine operation, do not remove chips by hand, and avoid touching the machine’s moving parts with your hands.

( 6) When removing chips, use appropriate tools to avoid cutting your hands or feet on the chips.

( 7) When measuring the workpiece, it must be done with the machine tool stopped.

( 8) After finishing work, be sure to clean the machine tool and control equipment thoroughly and perform timely maintenance and upkeep on the machine tool. When servicing electrical equipment, you must first disconnect the power supply.

After all work is completed, make sure to disconnect the power supply to the machine tool system before leaving.
